When Is Your Fantasy Football Trade Deadline?
Your league’s settings determine its fantasy football trade deadline. There is no single date that applies to every league. Check the deadline, its time zone and the trade-review rules together: sending an offer before the cutoff is not the same as getting it accepted.

Find the deadline before you negotiate
Open your league’s settings and locate the trading section. Record the deadline week or date, the displayed time zone, and any review period. If your league has a separate written constitution, compare it with the platform setting and ask the commissioner to resolve any mismatch before a deal is on the table. The real NFL trade deadline does not establish your fantasy league’s cutoff.
Sleeper: trading closes after the selected week’s final game
Sleeper ties the cutoff to the last game of the NFL week chosen in your league settings. A Week 10 deadline allows trading through that week’s games; it closes when the final game ends. Managers cannot propose or accept deals afterward. A deal accepted beforehand can still finish processing after the cutoff when a review period applies.
Commissioners can change the deadline week or disable the deadline in General Settings. For keeper and dynasty leagues, Sleeper says trading becomes available again after the commissioner transitions the league to the new season. Do not assume that the end of the championship game alone reopens trading.
ESPN: acceptance and review actions have separate requirements
ESPN sets a common deadline for its Public leagues, while League Manager leagues choose from available deadlines. Read the actual date in your league rather than copying a date from another season. ESPN requires acceptance before the deadline. Its documentation also requires voting and League Manager uphold or veto actions before the cutoff.
Processing can happen later: ESPN’s examples show an accepted deal finishing its scheduled review period after the deadline when it has not received enough veto votes. If a League Manager wants to bypass the review period, ESPN says the request must be made before the deadline. Leave enough time to resolve a disputed or incorrectly configured trade instead of relying on a last-minute exception.

A practical deadline-week checklist
- Several days before: identify your weakest starting spot and which bench players you could move without creating another hole.
- Compare the full roster afterward. In a two-for-one trade, include the player you would add or drop; the transaction is bigger than the names in the offer.
- Check upcoming byes and current injury reports. A better rest-of-season ranking does not solve an empty lineup spot this week.
- Agree on the complete deal early enough for every manager to accept it. A chat agreement is not an accepted offer in the fantasy platform.
- Verify the trade’s recorded status, processing time and roster eligibility. Keep any commissioner decisions consistent with the rules the league already agreed to.
